Blog NR. 9 (enjoy!)

And it’s back to the writing chair and giving you all a short update how we have been the last few days. Just to let you know up front I’ll be the real wo(man) of the Blog and just stick to not being so women versus men.

To start of with the small talk yea their isn’t hardly any change weather wise, somewhat between the 24 – 28 degrees, a few good tropical rain showers now a days but it seems like they prefer to fall over on the Brisbane CBD side then here on the north side of the area. So plenty of time for us to have lovely longboarding rides, walkes and splashes in the sea while Rogier got his break and after he’s been working.
And ooh this is like the best way to give you an idea how he’s been working ;-)

But the real worker in the house goes out and does the real wo(man) stuff. Hunting! Yea it’s true I can’t lie about it as that’s not my thing you know. I’m really hunting and it’s rather nice to do on one side but on the other side it’s real frustrating because it all depends on how much luck there is hanging in the air.

A few of you will slowly lean back and start thinking ‘hm…how is this possible Hill and hunting that’s no combination, it doesn’t match, it can’t be as she’s been a vegetarian for quite a few years know. Hunting, hunting so she is eating meat or is it just fish but then you wouldn’t call it hunting. No, it’s just not possible, but on the other hand they have a beautiful BBQ and she loves to BBQ so hmhmmmmmm??!?’

I’ll just leave you in a sort of foggy thought and give you an idea of our situation now.
Rogier is working and doing this somewhat 4 days per week and as he calls it ‘doing geeky stuff’ on the other days. This will be working but not really working because he likes doing it and it’s more educating himself to stay the A master that he is. Yes you read it Rogier yesterday got an A from his boss for how he’s doing his job. He’s the only one in his unit that has an A and it is actually rarely given. Wow and I’m married to such a Hunk!

Me (Hill) works 2 days in the week for the Animal Aid as you already read and find it rather wonderful to do. It gives me soooo much energy and a wonderful feeling being able to help out in any way – for the dogs. If this would be paid work you could see me doing this, definitely! But with no money coming in on my side it’s looking for work the other days. Leaving my resume in places I would find it nice to work, send a lot of letters and search a lot, and then I meen a lot lot lot of diffurent job sites to find that one job I could do with my diploma.
I nearly had a wonderful job actually but unfortunately because having my type of visa it wasn’t possible. Finding it out after an interview and being asked to come for a try-out, but at least I learned a bit more about the Australian government system.

A little luck arrived as Randstad called about receiving my CV and they’re now working out what kind of possibilities there are for me with my experience in working in the child care. So hopefully something will come along through them. And then a few hours later I was called that I could become a ‘Home Care – delivery shopper’ (see http://www.homecare.com.au/Earn.asp if you want to know what it’s all about). So I'm a deliverer and hopefully this’ll mean earning some money in a few weeks (it depends on everyone who gets the catalogue...hmhm) and actually realy hope having an additional job! I’ll be so happy if this works out.

OK and now it comes about me and Hunting as I’m not the person who could keep her mouth shut for a long time so I’ll just cut to the point! Yes….nah ofcourse not I’m not eating any of the lovely smelling BBQ meat. I prefer preparing and BBQ-ing it and seeing the BIG smile on Rogiers face while he’s eating it.Hihi I mean Job Hunting of course.

The Ashes - door Rogier

In Nederland kennen wij cricket voornamelijk als een buitenbeentje; een vreemde sport die eigenlijk bijna niemand helemaal begrijpt. Het woord 'saai' doet de naam eigenlijk nog het meeste eer aan. De aankondiging van een cricket match zou in Nederland weinig stof doen opwaaien, zo saai als dat we het vinden. Wij begrijpen dat niet. Het zou in NL ongeveer te vergelijken zijn met het feit dat men de duurste sexy ultra mannelijke whiskeystem inhuurt - die normaal gesproken Independence Day of Rambo (@Air: of The Care Bears) zou aankondigen - en dat een veel te dure flashy video je in elke reclame break het volgende vertelt: "nog 4 dagen, en dan gaan we een fijne boswandeling maken". Nee wij begrijpen het niet.

Hier is dat anders. Iedereen cricket hier in de zomer. Ik was zo moedig om bij de slager te vertellen dat ik de regels van het cricket aan het leren was. Even een zijweg: lekker vlees daar trouwens en goedkoop (6 kippenpootjes in honey-soy marinade en 12 lamb sausages met rozemarijn voor 11 AUSD)! Maar goed, terug naar dat saaie spelletje. Die gasten vinden het onbegrijpelijk dat ik nog nooit heb gecricket. Ik vertelde dat ik voetbalde, waarop men in lachen uitbarstte, dat vinden ze maar een meisjessport hier. Cricket, that is totally it mate! En dan nu het orgasme van het Australische en Engelse cricket: The Ashes. The absolute top of the bill van het cricket. Het gaat om een tweejaarlijks toernooi van test cricket matches tussen Engeland en Australië. Ik zal even kort uitleggen: een test cricket match is een uitputtingslag waar 1 wedstrijd 4 tot 5 dagen duurt, Per dag wordt een 'innings' gespeeld van 10 uur tot 5 uur met twee korte pauzes. Het ene land speelt de ene dag als 'batting', terwijl het andere land dan de 'fielding' partij is. En vice versa de dag erna. De exacte regels van het cricket laat ik achterwege, maar hier is de link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket. Als je weet wat een 'maiden' is, dan ben je goed op weg om het te begrijpen (en moet je stoppen, anders ben je nog 72 uur bezig)! Maar 'The Ashes' blijven niet bij 1 test cricket match, nee het zijn er wel 5! In de vijf grote steden Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne en Sydney vindt het evenement plaats. Twee jaar later vindt het weer in Engeland plaats and so on and so on. Momenteel is Brisbane aan de beurt en het feest gaat door tot in januari. En al die tijd die veel te dure reclames en dagenlange cricketbeelden. Nee, wij hebben geen kaartjes (wij begrijpen het niet), maar je wordt er zo mee doodgegooid dat we vandaag toch maar de TV hebben aangezet om ons eens te verdiepen. Anders zou je je maar gaan vervelen op je vrije vrijdag, toch?

Een paar leuke feitjes. Dit is de trophy van The Ashes:

Lijkt heel wat, he? Maar eigenlijk is tie zo groot:

Australië staat enorm voor in het historisch klassement van The Ashes, dat al van 1882 gaande is. Maar Engeland wordt de laatste jaren stilaan beter en lijkt zeker dat het dit jaar gaat winnen.

Nog een leuk feitje: de wedstrijd werd zojuist gestaakt, omdat het licht van het stadion per ongeluk aan ging. Huh? Dat staat zeker in cursus uur 71,5 van de cricket regels.

Nou, ik moet stoppen met schrijven, het wordt zo stilaan behoorlijk spannend om 16:20, Australia staat 5/220 terwijl Engeland gisteren 260 heeft gescoord. Dat venijnige staartje wil je natuurlijk niet missen!
